Its earliest form is thought to be the ritualized throwing of bones or dice, with primitive protodice (cut knuckle bones) and carved six-sided dice discovered in ancient archaeological sites. Modern casino culture grew from the proliferation of legalized gambling opportunities in the United States after state legislatures made it legal to open gaming facilities.
