Poker is a card game played with a number of players. It is played in card rooms, casinos, private homes, or over the Internet. The objective of the game is to obtain the best hand of cards by betting until all of the other players have discarded their hands.<\/p>\n
A poker hand is composed of five cards. In the case of a tie, the highest unmatched card wins. For example, a pair of kings may be tied with a pair of deuces.<\/p>\n
There are three basic types of poker. These include no-limit, fixed-limit, and pot-limit. Fixed-limit poker requires that all players raise the same amount of money. No-limit and pot-limit poker allow any bet up to the limit set by the game.<\/p>\n
Cards are dealt to the players face up. Players can shuffle the cards themselves or have the dealer do so. Depending on the rules of the game, the cards can be dealt face up or face down.<\/p>\n
The player to the left of the dealer is first to deal. Cards are then given to each player in turn. If the dealer has not dealt, the player to the right of the dealer is next.<\/p>\n
When the cards are dealt, all but one player folds. This means that the remaining player is awarded the pot, but is not required to show his or her hand.<\/p>\n
