Poker is a card game played by two or more players and involves betting on the strength of one\u2019s hand. It is considered a game of chance, but when money is involved it becomes more of a game of skill and psychology. While luck will always play a significant role, players can control their risk and long-run expectations by choosing to call or fold.<\/p>\n
Before a hand begins the dealer shuffles the cards. Each player receives two personal cards which they keep secret and the dealer deals three more cards on the table that everyone can use. These are called the flop. Then the betting round starts and each player must decide whether to continue to bet or fold their hand.<\/p>\n
Once the betting is done the dealer puts a fourth card on the table that everyone can use which is called the turn. Then the betting continues until someone has a winning hand of five cards. There are a variety of hands but the most common are a pair, two pairs, a straight and a flush. The highest pair wins ties except when both hands have the same pairs.<\/p>\n
Pay attention to your opponents and try to read them. A lot of the time these reads aren\u2019t from subtle physical poker tells such as scratching your nose or playing nervously with your chips but more so from patterns. If you notice a player tends to bet early on every hand then it\u2019s probably safe to assume they\u2019re playing fairly weak cards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
